A weekend celebration of friends and fun in the surf and sun
Friday – September 30, 2011
6 – 8:00 pm: Nuevo Southwest Grill, 21490 East Cliff Drive: Meet up, eat up (bring some cash to cover what you eat), share bodysurfing stories. Wear your favorite bodysurfing t-shirt. Afterwards, we will walk a few block towards the beach for an exclusive, private viewing of the new bodysurfing film, Come Hell or High Water 217 Black Point Lane, Santa Cruz, 95062. Parking is limited, so please park at Nuevo or on Portola Drive and walk to the venue.($10 suggested donation to support the film producers and Plastic Pollution Coalition). Next, for the young at heart, we will head to the Crows Nest, www.crowsnest-santacruz.com for some music and dancing. Bar menu available if you miss dinner.
Saturday – October 1, 2011
7:00 am – noon: Lagunas: 6 miles north of the last traffic light heading out of santa cruz. You will see Laguna road on right, keep going and park in the dirt lot at the north end of Laguna road. Walk across the highway to the path in the bushes. Follow path across railroad tracks and over the small hill. You will see the break below you. We usually swim at the south end of the beach. Bodysurfing fun and frolicking for all: men, women, kids, tandem teams, purists. To participate, just show up with a smile, donate a few unwanted items to the Great White Gift Exchange, and bring a homemade trophy to the award ceremony (*see below).
3:00 pm – 11 pm: Bodysurfing Party: 971 35th Avenue, Santa Cruz (north side of Portola Drive). Beer provided. Tacos served 5 – 6:30. Awards Ceremony at 6 pm – bring a homemade trophy to include in the festivities. CLASSIC RAFFLE!!! AND new, long and short sleeve NAVY BODYSURFING T-SHIRTS now available!!! Bring cash to spend, stories to share, stuff to include in the raffle, and a smile.
midnight - moonlight expression session at 26th avenue
Sunday – October 2, 2011
7:30 am – 10 am: Location to be decided: 26th or Lagunas? Bodysurfing expression session and video taping. Smile: you’ll be on camera! Also, Great White appreciation ceremony: bring something (biodegradable) to toss in before and after your swim.
10:30 am – 1 pm: “Tish the Fish” Pancake brunch, Santa Cruz (directions given out at Lagunas or by request). Expression session video tapes. Prizes for best ride, worst wipe-out, closest shark encounter.
5 pm: Sunset BBQ at Villa Vista - 26th avenue. Call for directions/more info
NEXT STEP: CALL OR EMAIL TO LET US KNOW YOU WILL BE JOINING THE FUN:
*No fee for any of the above events. BUT please clean out your bodysurfing closet and bring new/used gear, t-shirts, memorabilia to add to the Great White Gift Exchange. AND bring a homemade trophy: a fin, piece of wood, artwork, framed photo, or anything else that can serve as a base for the award plaque (3 x 1 plaque provided – let us know if you want the plaque to stick or hang on your donated trophy). If you are unable to bring a gift or trophy, let us know and we’ll cover you.
